WILSHIRE CENTER NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILThe Wilshire Center Neighborhood Council next meeting is scheduled for Febuary 6th 2002, at 11:45am at 3600 Wilshire Blvd. 16th floor conference room.A work in progress. An Overview Statement, A Starting Point. The Wilshire Center Neighborhood Council (WCNC) is proposing to be the certified neighborhood council for Wilshire Center. The Council is to be a non-profit charitable/educational California Corporation. Council membership is open to everyone who lives, works, or owns property in Wilshire Center. The Council's objective is to reflect the diverse interests within our area. We will continue to communicate to all stakeholders by "www.wilshirecenter.com" web site and by other means. All meetings are open and public, and permit, to the extent feasible, every stakeholder to participate in the conduct of business, deliberation and decision-making. In the future, we hope to be an early warning system where by we can give our input to the City Council, boards, and commissions on upcoming decisions. Also, the council hopes to be able to present to the Mayor and Council an annual list of priorities for the City budget. And finally, we plan to monitor the delivery of the City services within our area and have periodic meetings with responsible officials of City departments, subject to their reasonable availability. We hope to obtain appropriate funds from the Mayor and City Council. The Wilshire Center Council represents the area bounded on the West by Wilton Place with a section between Crenshaw & Wilton below Olympic, on the South by Olympic/Pico Boulevard, on the East by Alvarado Street, and on the North by Third Street/Beverly. The current Council consist of the Beverly/Kinglsy Neighborhood Association, Korean American Coalition, Korean American Chamber of Commerce, Wilshire Center Chamber of Commerce, Wilshire Center Business Improvement Corp., Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Christian Church, Heart of L. A. Youth, CRA Wilshire Center & Koreatown CAC, Country Club Neighborhood Association, and other community individuals. The Council does welcome all individuals and groups to participate who live/work/own within the boundaries of the Council. Decisions are make by consensus. There are facilitators who assist in communications. The Council from time to time does designate a spokesperson to represent the Council interest. There are bylaws that formalize a procedure when it is required. The office is located at 3600 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1032, Los Angeles, CA 90010, phone: 213-383-1891, fax: 213-386-5853, email glra@pacbell.net. As stated above this overview statement is a work in progress, a beginning. This statement and how we define our council needs everyone's input. We have created an open interactive site at Wilshire Community for input. Click here for City of Los Angeles Dept. of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) web site.
