The Los Angeles AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) is committed to making our community a better place to live through greener design and development, smarter planning, and better public policy.  Each year, we spearhead a community event designed to facilitate debate and discussion about the built environment. This year we are excited to assist the Wilshire Center Business Improvement District (WCBID) in their goal to become the first Cool District in the nation. AIA/LA COTE’s Wilshire Center Cool District Eco Charette on March 15 was the first of three planned charrettes: the first will address the big picture, or Visioning; the second will engage Owners and City directly to develop specifi c strategies; and the third will focus on Implementation. The WCBID Cool District Pledge and plan will serve as a model for other BIDs (there are currently 37 BIDs in Los Angeles and hundreds  throughout North America).
