Clean & Safe

The WCBID at Work
The WCBID team members are here to help make our community cleaner, safer and overall a better place to be. We have three teams; a 4-officer district safety team, a 8-member sidewalk maintenance team and a 4-person landscape maintenance team, which maintains the medians and pots on both sides of Wilshire Blvd.

The cleaning of the major sidewalks in our area is performed by Chrysalis. Chrysalis has a long history working with BIDs in Los Angeles. We have worked with them for a number of years on different specific maintenance projects. They provide services to about 13 other BIDs within the City. Chrysalis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment. Since their start in 1984, they have helped over 35,000 individuals change their lives through jobs.

District Safety Team
The Wilshire Center District Safety Team consists of four bike patrols during the day from 10:30am to 6:30pm, Monday through Friday. The district safety officers work closely with the Los Angeles Police Department, Olympic Division and report illegal activities, graffiti, street code violations and other qualify of life problems. The bike patrol officers also act as ambassadors for the district by helping individuals where they can by providing assistance, directions, and other useful community information.

For city police, LAPD, and assistance for emergency issues, call 911. When calling to report an emergency from a cell phone call (213) 928-8206. For non-emergency issues call the LAPD at (877) 275-5273. For graffiti removal use the city's online Anti-Graffiti Request System at anti-graffiti.lacity.org or call 311 or outside Los Angeles call (213) 473-3231 or 1-866-452-2489 For bulky item pickup, illegal dumping, street repairs, tree trimming and other general city services visit the City Services website at publiccsd.lacity.org or call 311. If needed, call the WCBID safety offices at (213) 290-8850. If you call outside of normal business hours please leave a message or send a text message. When calling LAPD or the WCBID safety officers, please provide as much detailed information about the criminal activity as possible to the dispatch operator. With more info, the police and safety officers will be better equipped to assess and prevent or defuse the situation. Providing as much info such as the exact location, type of activity, suspect descriptions, and your name and phone number is crucial.

Recently the WC District Safety Team was presented with a commendation by the LAPD Olympic Division for exhibiting a high level of professionalism in the apprehension of a wanted criminal. Click here to read the letter from Chief Charlie Beck. Today the community is little safer thanks to the partnership between the LAPD Olympic Division and the WC District Safety Team.

Olympic Area Community Police Advisory Board

The Olympic Area C-PAB meets monthly to discuss crime, quality of life and other issues that effect the community. Meetings are held at 6:30 pm on the first Thursday of each month at the Olympic Station located at 1130 S. Vermont Ave. Come meet your Captain, Olympic Area Senior Lead Officers and other community members.

C-PABs were created in 1993 to provide community members with an opportunity to provide information and  advice to their respective area. The board is comprised of members from the various residential and business communities who live or work in a particular geographic area. The purpose of the C-PAB is to provide advice to the Area Commanding Officer regarding decreasing the incidence and fear of crime in the community, as well as to provide community members with a voice in the policing of their communities. In addition, the Area Commanding Officer provides updates and explanations of Department programs to members of the CPAB.
